About Voyage Advisory

Voyage Advisory is a management consulting firm that helps clients elevate service, drive performance, and power transformation — specializing in contact centers, customer experience, and operational transformation for utilities and government agencies. We are a boutique firm headquartered in Chicago with operations in the US and Canada.

What sets Voyage apart is the combination of the right team, custom tools, and real accountability. Our consultants work with purpose-built applications designed specifically for the work we do — while most consulting teams operate in a tapestry of disconnected spreadsheets, PowerPoints, and Visios, our tools get our team to insights faster, facilitate transformation in real time, and deliver a level of rigor and consistency that disconnected tools simply can't match. When we see a problem that needs a solution — a dashboard, a calculator, an automation — we build it in days, not years.

We use AI-directed development to ship these internal applications, client dashboards, and analytical tools at a pace that would be impossible with traditional development. If the term "vibe coding" means something to you, you'll fit right in.

The Role

This is a hybrid product development and data analytics role, split roughly 50/50 between two tracks:

Track 1: Internal Product Development (~50%)

You will build and maintain Voyage's growing ecosystem of internal applications — tools our consultants use every day for time studies, process mapping, client analysis, and project delivery. You won't be writing code from scratch. You'll work with our leadership to understand requirements, develop design specifications with AI assistants, and then implement those designs using AI-directed coding tools like Claude Code. Think of this as a modern product manager who can also ship. Your responsibilities include:

  • Translating business requirements into clear design specifications and user stories
  • Using AI coding tools (Claude Code, Cursor, GitHub Copilot) as your primary development workflow to build and iterate on applications
  • Building and maintaining web applications across our Next.js / Vercel / Snowflake / Python stack
  • Developing and improving automated test scripts and QA processes using tools like Playwright
  • Managing deployments, database schemas, API integrations, and version control via GitHub
  • Rapidly prototyping new tools and features based on consultant feedback and client needs

Track 2: Client-Facing Analytics & Reporting (~50%)

You will work alongside our senior consultants to understand what clients need from their data, then build it. This means sitting with our subject matter experts, understanding their assessment findings and transformation recommendations, and translating that into dashboards, reports, and visualizations that drive decisions. You'll be the person our consultants turn to when they need data brought to life, and the person who can go toe-to-toe with a client's IT team on technical requirements. Your responsibilities include:

  • Partnering with Voyage consultants to understand client data needs and analytical requirements
  • Building dashboards and reports using tools appropriate to the client environment (Tableau, Power BI, or custom-built solutions)
  • Working with client IT teams and technical stakeholders to understand data sources, system architectures, and integration requirements
  • Analyzing operational data sets — call volumes, handle times, staffing models, process cycle times — to surface insights that drive transformation recommendations
  • Creating data visualizations and presentation-ready outputs that tell a clear story
  • Supporting the development of Voyage's reusable analytical frameworks and templates

Required Skills & Experience

  • 3–5 years of relevant experience in some combination of product development, data analytics, application development, or technical consulting — we care more about what you can do than where you did it
  • Demonstrated ability to use AI coding assistants (Claude Code, Cursor, GitHub Copilot, or similar) to build and ship working software — this is a core competency, not a nice-to-have
  • Familiarity with our core stack or close equivalents: Next.js (or React), Python, SQL, Snowflake (or similar cloud data warehouse like Amazon Redshift), Vercel or AWS Amplify, GitHub
  • Strong Excel skills are expected, but Excel alone is not enough — proficiency with at least one enterprise data visualization tool (Tableau, Power BI, or R) is required
  • Solid understanding of relational databases, data modeling, and working with large operational data sets
  • Ability to write clear design specifications and technical documentation
  • Comfort with ambiguity — clients won't hand you clean requirements, and internal projects evolve fast
  • Strong communication skills, particularly the ability to explain technical concepts to non-technical consultants and discuss technical requirements with client IT teams
  • Bachelor's degree required

You Might Be Great for This Role If...

  • You have previous consulting experience and are looking to build on it — you understand the rhythm of client engagements, the importance of deliverables, and what it means to be billable, but you want a role where you're building things, not just making slide decks
  • You've used AI coding tools to ship something real — not just experimented, but actually deployed and maintained it
  • You started as an analyst or junior developer and found yourself gravitating toward building tools to solve the problems you kept seeing
  • You're the person your team turns to when they say "can we build something that does X?" and you figure it out
  • You're more excited by shipping ten useful internal tools than perfecting one beautiful product
  • You can context-switch between debugging a deployment issue in the morning and walking a consultant through a Tableau dashboard in the afternoon
  • You have some familiarity with contact centers, utilities, or government operations — or you're a fast learner who's comfortable picking up new domains quickly
  • You care about making things work, not about writing elegant code

Logistics

  • Location: Chicago, IL — in-office 3 days per week
  • Travel: Occasional travel to client sites as needed (less than the travel load of a traditional consultant)

Compensation

A competitive cash compensation package is offered for this role along with a performance-based bonus. Health, dental, vision, disability, and life insurance are provided. Retirement benefits and paid time off are included.
